Aussie influencer shares deeply emotional family update
An Aussie influencer and model has shared a profoundly emotional update after undergoing open-heart surgery while pregnant with her second child. Australian model and influencer Leah Ramsey has opened up to her followers about the profound emotional toll of saying a heartbreaking goodbye to her newborn daughter, Rowe. The immense family hardship follows an extraordinary medical battle that began during the 35-year-old’s pregnancy and captured international attention. Ms Ramsey’s intense medical journey started unexpectedly during her pregnancy with what initially appeared to be a routine, albeit painful, swollen leg. Assuming it was a typical pregnancy symptom, she tried to push through the discomfort. However, the condition rapidly escalated, leading to emergency surgery to remove a dangerous blood clot. The surgery revealed a far more severe underlying condition: a streptococcal infection that had silently lived in her body for nearly a year.
The undetected infection had travelled to her heart, causing infective endocarditis, which is a rare but highly critical infection of the heart’s inner lining or valves. It occurs when bacteria or fungi from another part of the body enters the bloodstream, settles on damaged heart tissue, and forms growths called vegetations. With both her life and her pregnancy at extreme risk, open-heart surgery became unavoidable. In February, Ms Ramsey was transferred to a specialist cardiac centre where she underwent a high-stakes, six-hour operation to replace her mitral valve.

The gruelling procedure required her heart to be stopped entirely for 80 minutes, with doctors prioritising the mother’s survival while monitoring the significant risks posed to her unborn baby girl.
Against heavy odds, the surgery was deemed a success.
Over the following months, Ms Ramsey demonstrated remarkable resilience.
She documented her slow and vulnerable road to recovery, sharing milestones with her followers, which showed gentle movements to her triumphant graduation from cardiac rehabilitation.
Despite the trauma of the infections and the major cardiac surgery, her baby, Rowe, survived the pregnancy and was born alive.

Saddeningly, however, Ms Ramsey recently shared the heartrending news that baby Rowe had not survived her ongoing health battle, writing a moving tribute to her daughter on social media.
“You made it through infections and multiple surgeries, even when the odds were against you. But it just wasn’t your time,” she wrote in her caption.
“We are absolutely heartbroken. You will always be deeply loved.”
In her most recent update to followers, Ms Ramsey laid bare the heavy emotional reality of the aftermath.
“There is nothing that can prepare you for giving birth and having the room completely silent,” she took to TikTok.
“We are absolutely devastated and trying to find our way through a heartbreak we never imagined.”
Beyond the immense, overwhelming grief of parting with their baby after fighting so hard to save them both, the family is navigating a steep emotional toll.

Members of the online community and fellow creators have flooded the courageous mother with support, honouring the short but incredibly brave life of baby Rowe.
“So sorry for your heartache. What a beautiful name for a strong girl, she will always be with you,” one person commented in support.
“Forever your baby girl,” another wrote.
“I’m so sorry for the difficult parting with little Rowe. Wishing you strength and love from Australia,” echoed a third.
The prolonged hospital stays, specialist cardiac care, emergency surgeries, and subsequent rehabilitation have placed a heavy financial burden on the family, all while Ms Ramsey and her husband, Michael, navigate the acute trauma of their family’s recent ordeal and care for their three-year-old son, Reeves.
