Sarah Abo Returns to the Logies Just Four Weeks After Giving Birth — Before One Red Carpet Moment Steals the Show
Sarah Abo’s return to the Logies came at a very different point in her life than any previous appearance.
Only four weeks after welcoming her first child with husband Cyrus Moran, the Today host stepped back onto the red carpet for one of Australian television’s biggest nights.
It was a significant professional occasion, but Abo admitted that her thoughts were still firmly elsewhere.
Her first night away as a new mum
Abo welcomed baby boy Sonny in late July, and the Logies marked her first real evening away from him.
Even then, the separation was only temporary.
Sonny was staying upstairs at the venue, and Abo revealed she planned to regularly leave the celebrations to check on him.
“I’m feeling alright. It’s my first night kind of away from him. He’s upstairs, though, so I’m going to be checking in every hour!”
For Abo, the attachment had already become all-consuming.
“I’m obsessed with him, actually. It’s amazing.”
She explained that becoming a mother had completely shifted her priorities, with her world now revolving around the “little tiny human” she had welcomed only weeks earlier.
From the baby bubble to the Logies
Abo had spent much of the previous four weeks immersed in life with her newborn.
Sonny had already made a small television appearance of his own when Abo brought him into the Today studio to meet her colleagues.
But preparing herself for the Logies required a very different kind of effort.
She joked about the “superhero effort” involved in getting ready after weeks spent largely inside her baby bubble.
The evening also gave her an opportunity to reunite with colleagues including Tom Steinfort, Sylvia Jeffreys and Jayne Azzopardi.

A nomination that made the night even more surreal
Abo was not simply attending the ceremony.
She entered the evening nominated for the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter, while Today was also nominated for Best Current Affairs Program.
Reflecting on growing up watching Australian television and the Logies, Abo admitted the recognition was difficult to fully process.
“So to be actually nominated, it feels surreal, to be honest.”
She said she had long admired the other journalists nominated alongside her and considered simply being part of the field an honour.
“I’m the youngest one, the least experienced one, but just to be nominated among them is so incredibly special.”
Yet despite the significance of the nomination, another far less serious moment would become one of the more memorable parts of her red carpet appearance.
Sophie Monk leaves Sarah an unexpected question

During a celebrity question relay, Abo was handed a golden baton and asked to answer a question previously left by Sophie Monk.
It was not exactly a question about journalism or motherhood.
Monk wanted to know what colour underwear Abo was wearing — if any.
Abo barely hesitated.
“Oh, that’s easy! They’re grey.”
The answer itself went smoothly.
What happened immediately afterwards did not.
A tiny mix-up changes the mood
Abo was simultaneously holding a handbag and microphone while also carrying the golden relay baton.
Amid the noise and activity of the red carpet, the new mum briefly mixed up the objects in her hands.
She lifted the golden baton toward her mouth and began speaking into it — while the actual microphone remained elsewhere in her hand.
It was a simple mistake, but one that provided a wonderfully unscripted contrast to the polished atmosphere surrounding the Logies.
After an evening filled with talk of motherhood, career milestones and a major award nomination, the accidental baton moment revealed a much more relaxed side of Abo.
And perhaps that was what made her return particularly memorable.
Only four weeks earlier, her world had changed completely. At the Logies, she managed to balance a major professional milestone with the reality of being a brand-new mum — even if, for a few seconds, balancing the microphone and baton proved slightly trickier.
