‘The show lives on!’: Aussie drama McLeod’s Daughters is back!

We’re going back to Drovers Run! Twenty-five years since McLeod’s Daughters first aired, the beloved outback drama is return to our screens.

And the classic Nine Network series will have a new home, with the series airing on Nine’s streaming platform Stan. Nine announced the iconic series’ return today at their upfronts which showcase their programming slate for 2027.

Created by Posie Graeme-Evans, McLeod’s aired from 2001 to 2009 and centred on the trials and triumphs of rural life, set against the unforgettable sweeping South Australian landscape.

The series introduced us to sisters Claire (Lisa Chappell) and Tess McLeod (Bridie Carter) and other strong women navigating life on the land.

Over 224 episodes, the show became a hit with fans, scooping nine TV WEEK Logie Awards.

There were plenty of romances and devastating heartbreaks, none more so than when Claire died after her car crashed off a cliff in 2003.

Now the show’s legacy will continue with a new legion of fans.

“The core of the show is about the human condition and it’s about family relationships, resilience and the ups and downs of life,” Bridie, 59, tells TV WEEK. “I think no matter how much time passes, that will always be relevant.”

And its popularity endures, with McLeod’s recently ranking sixth in readers’ top shows of the past 70 years. Today, McLeod’s airs in more than 200 territories throughout the world.

“That’s ridiculous for a show that was made so long ago,” Bridie says.

While Nine is tight-lipped on plot details about the reboot, Bridie has given us some indication of where it could go in the modern era.

“It’s just so interesting to come back all these years later with the way the world has changed,” she says.  “And those characters have changed and you have their offspring and a whole lot of new characters… you just have so much material.”

Myles Pollard, who played Tess’ husband Nick Ryan, is enthusiastic about the reboot. “The show will live on!” he says.

S1-8 of McLeod’s Daughters is available to stream on Stan.
