Judge Poh Ling Yeow breaks down as youngest MasterChef Australia contestant is sent home: ‘I am so broken-hearted’
It was heartbreak on MasterChef Australia on Wednesday night as the season’s youngest contestant was sent home.
Bella Di Conza, 20, was felled when her apple and cinnamon entremet dessert fell short.
While the flavours overall worked for some of the judges, the texture of the gel topping and the gluggy mousse was unimpressive.
The presentation of the dish was also lacklustre, after Bella had struggled to remove her entremet from the mould, leaving her grappling to cut it from the silicone base with scissors.
Bella’s elimination left judge Poh Ling Yeow devastated and she sobbed as she farewelled the young cook.
‘Bella, I am so broken-hearted for you right now. You are so young and you have so much talent,’ Poh wept, tears streaming down her cheeks.

‘I know you’re going to be a superstar, and I want you to promise me that you’re not going to let this moment define you,’ she continued.
‘It’s what you actually do after this,’ Poh added, before requesting a sweet hug from the departing chef.
Judge Jean-Christophe Novelli also had kind words for Bella, comparing her to a younger version of iconic chef Mary Berry.
Bella was gracious in defeat, promising that she would not give up her ambitions in the kitchen.
‘I’ve learnt so much from this experience. I am proud of the way I’ve shown up every day in this competition and pushed myself,’ she said.
‘Poh made me promise that this is only the beginning and I’m going to stick to that promise,’ she explained.
‘I want to share the food I love with so many people, and I’m going to find a way to do that.’
It was another brutal elimination round for MasterChef Australia after budding cook Belinda was sent home on Monday night.

She departed the competition after her flatbread and dip failed to impress the judges.
As a big fan of the show, Belinda was heartbroken to have to leave the competition so soon in the season.
She broke down as she explained her disappointment in being eliminated after a lacklustre performance.
‘I didn’t cook good today so I feel I deserve it,’ Belinda said, tears rolling down her cheeks.
‘And that’s hard because I would really love to have been able to cook a really good dish today that I could go out and be proud of,’ she continued.
Belinda went on to say that she would be challenging herself as a chef now that she’s been inspired by her time on MasterChef.
‘I’ve learnt that I would like to now try and take my cooking to another level,’ she said.
