Kyle Sandilands was ready to begin his subscriber-only broadcast on Tuesday morning when something changed at the last minute.
The 55-year-old presenter had already arrived at the studio and was due to go live at 6am. But shortly before the broadcast, he decided to leave and return home, leaving newsreader Brooklyn Ross to step in and host the show instead.
For those around him, it was not simply the decision to miss a broadcast that stood out. It was how different Kyle appeared before he left.

Kyle was already at the studio
As the show began without its usual host, Brooklyn Ross explained that Kyle had been in the building but had unexpectedly gone home.
“He was more quiet,” executive producer Jaimee “Mayo” Blazquez later said, describing a Kyle who was noticeably unlike his usual energetic self.
Mayo said she had spoken with him and made him a coffee before he left. She also recalled that Kyle appeared unusually subdued.
His manager, Bruno Bouchet, subsequently offered more insight into what had been happening.
According to Bruno, Kyle had been feeling out of sorts following his subscriber meet-and-greet over the weekend.
“He was just in a lot of pain,” Bruno explained, adding that when Kyle was not feeling well, he found it difficult to continue with the show.

The weekend event that may have taken its toll
Just days earlier, Kyle had hosted his first subscriber meet-and-greet, a six-hour event that brought him face-to-face with fans.
The event took place in Sydney on Saturday, September 12, and was attended by subscribers to Kyle Sandilands Live. Kyle was also joined by his wife Tegan Kynaston and their young son Otto during the event.
By Tuesday morning, however, his team was concerned enough for him to step away from the broadcast.
One report said Kyle’s hernia was troubling him after spending around six hours on his feet during the event. Other comments from his manager focused more broadly on Kyle being in pain and not feeling 100 per cent.
Either way, the decision marked another interruption to Kyle’s work at a particularly difficult time for his health.
It comes just one week after his latest health update
Kyle’s decision to go home came only days after he shared an unsettling update about a brain aneurysm he has been monitoring since it was diagnosed in 2025.
Earlier this month, he revealed that a scan had shown the aneurysm had grown by another millimetre.
For Kyle, the number may have sounded small, but the result was clearly difficult to process. He had been hoping the aneurysm would remain stable — or even become smaller — rather than increase in size.
Doctors have not recommended surgery at this stage because, according to Kyle’s previous accounts, the risks of operating remain greater than the risks of continuing to monitor the aneurysm.
That means the latest result has left him facing an uncertain situation that requires ongoing medical attention rather than an immediate procedure.
A health battle Kyle has never hidden
Kyle first publicly revealed his brain aneurysm in February 2025, explaining at the time that doctors had discovered the condition and that it required close medical attention.
He has since spoken openly about the fear surrounding possible surgery and the uncertainty of waiting for further scans.
His latest update was particularly personal. After learning that the aneurysm had grown, Kyle admitted that the news was not what he had been hoping to hear and that the prospect of eventually needing surgery frightened him.
The development came after he had previously offered a more reassuring assessment of his condition, saying earlier this year that specialists had reviewed his scans and believed the aneurysms had stabilised.
The quiet moment before the cameras came on
That is why Tuesday’s scene at the studio carried a little more weight.
There was no dramatic announcement from Kyle. No long explanation before the broadcast.
He simply arrived, appeared quieter than usual, spoke with members of his team and then made the decision to go home.
Brooklyn Ross took his place, while Bruno reassured viewers that Kyle was alright and needed to rest.
It was a very different picture from the loud, unpredictable presenter audiences are accustomed to seeing.
And perhaps the most telling detail was the one noticed by the people closest to him: Kyle simply did not seem like himself.

For now, Kyle is taking a step back
Kyle’s absence from Tuesday’s broadcast does not appear to signal a permanent change to his new subscription venture.
Instead, the immediate message from his team was that he was unwell, in pain and needed rest.
After a demanding weekend, followed so closely by an emotionally difficult medical update, the decision to step away from the microphone may have been a simple one.
For someone who has built a career around pushing through almost everything, knowing when to leave the studio may have been the more important decision this time.
And as Kyle continues to navigate the uncertainty surrounding his health, that quiet choice to go home may have said more than any on-air announcement could.
