Sarah Abo’s Today future hangs in the balance — and the move that could mark a fresh start at Channel Seven
For Sarah Abo, the past year has brought one major change after another. Now, as she settles into life as a new mother, fresh speculation is swirling around what comes next for her television career.
The Today presenter has reportedly attracted interest from rival network Seven, amid continuing uncertainty around Nine’s breakfast program following the departure of Karl Stefanovic and Sarah’s own maternity leave.
However, it is important to stress that Sarah’s move to Seven has not been officially confirmed. The claims come from industry sources quoted by Woman’s Day.

A new chapter after a turbulent year
Sarah became a central figure in Today’s changing line-up after Karl Stefanovic’s departure from Nine earlier this year.
She subsequently stepped away from the program earlier than planned during her pregnancy, after experiencing high blood pressure and spending time in hospital. She later welcomed her first child, son Sonny, with husband Cyrus Moran.
In August, Sarah made a brief and emotional return to Today, bringing four-week-old Sonny into the studio and sharing her experience of becoming a first-time mother.
She described herself as “a little bit obsessed” with her baby and said her family had settled into a positive new routine.
But behind the scenes, questions about her professional future have continued.

Is Seven trying to bring Sarah Abo across?
According to a source quoted by Woman’s Day, Seven has been interested in Sarah for some time.
The source claimed Sarah had allegedly been poorly treated by Nine and suggested that a move could offer her a “fresh start”.
There is also speculation that Seven could potentially offer Sarah a role extending beyond breakfast television, particularly if she were able to work more closely with the Melbourne market.
That detail could be significant for Sarah, who previously moved from Melbourne to Sydney with Cyrus when she joined Today.
Still, at this stage, there is no confirmed announcement from either Sarah Abo, Nine or Seven that she is leaving Today.
The timing could hardly be more complicated
The speculation comes as Nine continues to work out the future of Today.
Following Karl Stefanovic’s exit and Sarah’s maternity leave, the network has been testing different combinations at the breakfast desk.
Samantha Armytage and Tom Steinfort have emerged as a particularly talked-about pairing after their recent stint together, with reports suggesting their appearance delivered a ratings lift and prompted discussion about a longer-term arrangement.
That has inevitably raised questions about where Sarah would fit when she is ready to return.

Samantha Armytage adds another twist
Samantha’s involvement has become one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle.
The former Sunrise host has openly said she enjoys breakfast television and, while describing her Today appearances as filling in, she also teased viewers to “watch this space”.
Her strong chemistry with Tom Steinfort has only added to speculation about Nine’s plans.
If Nine were to pursue a permanent new hosting combination, Sarah’s eventual return could therefore come at a very different Today to the one she left.
Sarah and Dr Chris Brown: another unexpected possibility
Adding another layer to the speculation, Sarah recently appeared on The Chrissie Swan Show alongside Seven personality Dr Chris Brown.
Their natural chemistry prompted industry chatter about whether the pair could eventually work together in a television format.
Woman’s Day reported that the idea of Sarah and Chris Brown working together had been discussed, although neither has indicated that a deal is imminent.
For now, it remains speculation — but it demonstrates just how much uncertainty surrounds the next stage of Sarah’s career.
For Sarah, the priorities have changed
Whatever happens professionally, Sarah’s return to television is now taking place in a very different chapter of her life.
After a difficult pregnancy and the arrival of Sonny, the journalist has made it clear how much motherhood means to her.
Her brief return to Today showed a presenter who was still deeply connected to the program, but also a new mum enjoying a completely different kind of spotlight.
And with Seven reportedly watching closely, Nine reshaping Today and several potential hosting combinations being considered, Sarah Abo’s next move could become one of the biggest stories in Australian breakfast television.
For now, though, the door to Today has not officially closed — and neither has the possibility of a very different chapter at Seven.
