MasterChef’s Top Four Reveal Meghan Markle’s Off-Camera Side — and One Quiet Detail Kept Emerging
Long before Meghan Markle entered the MasterChef Australia kitchen, viewers had been debating what her highly anticipated appearance would look like.
Yet after the episode aired on Sunday, July 26, the biggest question was no longer about the dishes placed before her. Fans wanted to know how the Duchess of Sussex behaved when filming paused and the polished television moment gave way to life behind the scenes.
Now, contestants Aaron, Casper and Vinnie have offered their own accounts—and despite speaking separately, all three recalled a remarkably similar side of the celebrity guest.
A high-pressure challenge with royal expectations

Meghan’s arrival immediately transformed the atmosphere inside the kitchen.
Walking in along a specially rolled-out red carpet, she surprised the final four contestants—Vinnie, Aaron, Casper and Petro—as well as the eliminated contestants watching from the gantry.
Her Mystery Box challenge carried enormous stakes. The winner would secure immunity and advance directly into the Top Three.
Inside the box was a selection of ingredients connected to Meghan’s own cooking preferences, including celeriac, lemons, Brussels sprouts, Australian honey, macadamias, Jerusalem artichoke, quince, apples, mandarins and strawberries.
Each contestant had to select one ingredient and make it the centrepiece of a dish considered worthy of a Duchess.
Viewers change their minds

Before the episode aired, Meghan’s involvement had attracted considerable scepticism.
Although she has spoken publicly about her passion for home cooking, launched the lifestyle brand As Ever and fronted her own Netflix series, some viewers questioned whether she was the right choice for the competition. Others even suggested they would avoid the episode altogether.
The reaction after it aired was noticeably different.
Many viewers praised Meghan’s warmth, knowledge and composed approach to judging, while others said they had been pleasantly surprised by how naturally she appeared to connect with the contestants.
Prince Harry’s brief appearance during the tasting of Aaron’s dish also became one of the episode’s most discussed moments.
Still, the carefully edited broadcast could only show part of what happened in the kitchen.
What the contestants noticed

Aaron described Meghan as a knowledgeable and thoughtful guest whose understanding of both food and produce was evident in the feedback she delivered.
He said her judging felt natural, considered and fair, but it was her grounded manner that made the strongest impression. According to Aaron, she helped ease the tension inside the kitchen and made the contestants feel comfortable during an intensely stressful cook.
Vinnie shared a similar experience.
He praised the range of ingredients Meghan selected and described the challenge as generous and creatively open. He also remembered her feedback as constructive and detailed, saying she created an environment in which the contestants could relax despite the pressure surrounding them.
Casper, meanwhile, was particularly struck by the amount of time Meghan gave each cook.
He said her passion for food became apparent almost immediately, while her carefully considered observations made her appear completely at home in the judging role.
Away from the main filmed exchanges, Casper recalled Meghan listening closely and engaging individually with all four contestants. During what he described as one of their most stressful challenges of the season, her calm presence helped make the experience feel more manageable.
For viewers, Meghan’s red-carpet entrance may have provided the episode’s biggest spectacle.
But for the contestants standing beside her in the kitchen, it was something much quieter—the way she listened, reassured and gave them her time—that appeared to leave the most lasting impression.
